Paul Chivari

Just a few weeks removed from the end of the NFL season, right when you thought your football fix wasn’t being met, the Indoor Football League kicked off its 2013 season. The Chicago Slaughter, now in their fourth season in the IFL, are coming off of a 6-8 finish in the 2012 campaign, their only IFL season without a playoff berth. They look to bounce back and provide another entertaining year of indoor football for the Chicagoland area. This year will mark the seventh season of Chicago Slaughter Football with Steve “Mongo” McMichael returning at the helm, the franchise’s only Head Coach to date. The Slaughter are once again proud to call the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinoistheir home, also in it’s seventh year as the team’s domain.
While there are familiar faces on this year’s team, QB Juice Williams, RB Daniel Dufrene, and LB Lenny Radtke to name a few, the Slaughter brought in new players RB Conte Cuttino, WR Kevin Concepcion, DB Demarcus James, as well as others to round out this year’s squad. Each week, I will do a feature on a few players on the roster to get a closer look at their lives and football careers.
Last Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Slaughter (0-1) lost a tough, but hard fought game in their season opener against the Titans (1-0). The Titans outscored the Slaughter 41-31 in a game that saw the Slaughter up 12-7 at the half after both teams failed to score in the first quarter. After trading scores and leads in the 3rd quarter on a Carl Sims five yard touchdown catch from Titan quarterback Charles McCullum and a one-yard Juice Williams rushing TD for the Slaughter, the Titans T.J. Simmons returned a deflected Ryan Fillingim kickoff for a 47 yard score and the Titans never gave up the lead from that point.
The Slaughter look to get revenge on the Titans when they play Cedar Rapids2: THIS SUNDAY, February 24that the Sears Centre. It will be the home opener for the Slaughter. All seven home games this season will be broadcast live by SportsTownChicago.com and play-by-play will be called by yours truly. I’m looking forward to this season and am personally pumped for this Sunday, my Chicago Slaughter debut behind the microphone.  It’s officially going to be a “RED-OUT” so be sure to wear your red Slaughter gear and cheer loudly as we welcome back our Chicago Slaughter.
