AdvoCare 500 Preview

It's time to kick back, relax, and enjoy the end of summer. What better way to do that? By watching the stars of the Sprint Cup Series race under the lights at one of NASCAR's most historic tracks in a true southern classic.

The Race and The Place: This weekend, the 43 greatest drivers return to Atlanta Motor Speedway for their annual Labor Day event, the AdvoCare 500. Last year, Jeff Gordon claimed his 85th career victory on a Tuesday after rain from Tropical Storm Lee postponed  the event.

Drivers I'm Watching
  • Tony Stewart  A few days ago, I called Smoke out. After the helmet throw, you can't deny the passion. Starting on the pole doesn't hurt either.
  • Carl Edwards  Carl got his first career victory here back in 2005 after beating Jimmie Johnson to the line by a fender. That might be all he needs to clinch a spot in The Chase.
  • Jeff Gordon  Did you know? Jeff Gordon made his first career Sprint Cup Series start at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1992.
  • Kasey Kahne   Can he get into the Top 10 this weekend?
  • Marcos Ambrose  He has scored more points than any other driver the last five races. Can he claim his first oval win this weekend?
My Pick
  • Kyle Busch  Kyle led the most laps last night and finished 2nd in the truck race, he is on the pole for tonights Nationwide race and starts third in the AdvoCare 500. He knows a win tomorrow night will more than likely punch his ticket to The Chase.
Why TheNASCARTER Like's AMS
I love history and close finishes and Atlanta never fails to produce both. From Earnhardt/Labonte, Harvick/Gordon, and don't forget about one of the closest championship races that ended at Atlanta in 1992 when six drivers had a chance to win the championship that Alan Kulwicki captured. With the Wild Card standings being so close, I look forward to more history to be made at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
