Quicken Loans 400 Preview

The Sprint Cup boys are already causing a stir in the Irish Hills at Michigan International Speedway and the only thing everybody can agree on is that it's gonna be fast this weekend.

The Race in The Place
This weekend, NASCAR invades the Michigan International Speedway for there annual Fathers Day race, the Quicken Loans 400. Last year, Denny Hamlin held of Matt Kenseth for his first victory of 2011. Will we see another driver get their first win this weekend?

Drivers I'm Watching
  • Austin Dillon  I know it's only his second career Sprint Cup Series start but this kid is good and I mean, Damn Good. Let's not forget, he will be driving the iconic number 3 starting in 2014.
  • Carl Edwards  This weekend will really give us a true understanding of how far he is off from his Roush Fenway Racing teammates.
  • Tony Stewart  In the last four races at Michigan, Smoke has led the way with a average finish of 6.75.
  • Denny Hamlin  Driver of the number 11 FedEx Toyota has won this event the last two years. Can he make it three in a row this weekend?
  • Joey Lagano  It will interesting to see how Joey drive's the rest of the summer leading up to The Chase after his big win last weekend.
Why TheNASCARTER likes Michigan
This track is fast and after the repave, we are in for some record breaking speeds this weekend. Most drivers have broken the 200 MPH lap average and Greg Biffle says once they get in qualifying trim, the speeds will be down right dangerous. While I live for speed, I do hope it's a safe race for the competitors.

Quick Note: NASCAR and Goodyear will run a different compound on the left side tires starting tomorrow. The tires that good year brought had been blistering and NASCAR thought the projected temperature for Sunday would cause severe blow outs. NASCAR has scheduled a 75 minute practice session for Saturday, after the NASCAR Nationwide Series Race, to test out the new treads.

My Pick
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr.  Here we are, the four year anniversary of the last win and Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Steve Letarte look poised to win this weekend after heart break last weekend. Plus, that Batman paint scheme for "The Dark Knight Rises" looks to good not to win. This is the weekend "The JR Nation Rises!"
