Toyota / Save Mart 350 Preview

If you love NASCAR, you probably love left turns but if you love racing, you will love this weekend. That's because the Sprint Cup series will be in wine country, at the Sonoma Raceway. Instead of stomping grapes this weekend they will be mashing the gas in hopes of stomping the competition.

The Race and The Place
This weekend, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams will take their talents to Sears Point in the Sonoma Mountains to race in the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway. Last year, Kurt Busch held off Jeff Gordon to win a thriller of a race.

Drivers I'm Watching
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr.  Congrats Dale, you finally won a race and now you are rewarded by heading to one of your not so good tracks. He is still looking for his first Top 10 finish here.
  • Jeff Gordon  Every other Hendrick team has been to victory lane. Jeff Gordon looks to build off a solid 6th place finish last weekend and take his number 24 Chevy to victory lane for a sixth time at Sonoma Raceway.
  • Kurt Busch  I know, he is with a one car team and they aren't that good but Sonoma tends to be more about the driver and last years winner sees this as the place to get his first win with Phoenix Racing.
  • Marcos Ambrose  The road racing veteran is ready to take home that Sonoma Raceway victory  after heart break the last two years.
  • Robby Gordon  I know Robby isn't officially in the field yet but this guy does know how to run Sonoma and had a win here in 2003. So let's welcome him and the SPEED Energy team back.
Why TheNASCARTER Like's Sonoma
It's crazy, I used to hate Sonoma but for the last three years or so, this race has been wild and full of beating and banging. I actually think there was more bent sheet metal after Sonoma than Bristol. I look forward to this weekends race and believe it will be eventful. I hope I get to visit this track in the future.

Quick Note:  Beer Belly NASCAR Crew member and Army Sergeant First Class, Toby Appleton will be giving the command this weekend. He won the Toyota Hometown Heros contest. Next week, I will have the honor of interviewing Toby.

My Pick
  • AJ Allmendinger  I see this race getting crazy and after last weekend, I think everybody is gonna try to be that guy that ends the Junior talk. The Dinger has been hungry all year and lets not forget, this 22 team went to victory lane here last season.
